Deydey Crochets in 2026: Finding Balance, Care, and Community

Hey friends,

As we step into 2026, I wanted to share some thoughts about the direction Deydey Crochets is taking this year, and a little bit of my journey that led here. This is the beginning of a clearer, more intentional path, and I’ll be sharing more details as the year unfolds.

I learned to crochet when I was about nine, watching my grandma with her hooks and colorful yarn. I was hooked almost immediately and picked it up pretty quickly. Since then, crochet has kind of drifted in and out of my life, a quiet little companion over the years.

I crochet because I genuinely enjoy it. I love the rhythm of the stitches, watching patterns form in my hands, and the calm focus it brings. But honestly, I rarely keep what I make for myself. Florida’s heat makes a closet full of beanies, scarves, and blankets kind of impractical. Even when I gift things to friends and family, I realized everyone only needs so many scarves and hats.

A few years ago, I discovered amigurumi, tiny crochet plushies, and everything clicked. Suddenly, I could make small, joyful creations that are perfect for gifts. Giving plushies as gifts became a sweet little way to show love, and I realized I could create something that really brings people joy.

I’ve tried selling my projects over the years, but it never really felt right. If I didn’t have bills, I’d happily give them all away. I also don’t want to turn something that keeps me calm into something stressful. After thinking a lot about it, I think I’ve found a balance that works.

A Values-Driven Direction for 2026

Here’s what’s happening with Deydey Crochets this year:

1. Amigurumi for Joy and Impact
Small plushies will keep popping up at local markets, and larger custom pieces will be available online. And here’s the best part, 25% of every purchase goes to charity, supporting causes I care about. This keeps the joy of making alive while giving back a little too.

2. Blankets, Scarves, and Hats for Community
I love making blankets, scarves, and hats, but materials and shipping make giving them away on my own tricky. That’s why the Comfort & Care Fund exists, it helps cover yarn, materials, and a bit of time so I can create items thoughtfully. Everything is made at a sustainable pace and donated to community groups, outreach programs, and individuals whenever possible, based on need and opportunity, bringing warmth to people who really need it.

3. Teaching, Sharing, and Transparency (Future Goal)
Eventually, I’d love to share tutorials and behind-the-scenes peeks at my crochet process. Teaching and helping others find joy in this craft is something I’m excited about, but it’s more of a goal for the future than a focus right now.

More specifics about each of these pieces—how they work, how often things happen, and how you can participate—will be shared over time as they continue to take shape.

Why This Feels Right

This approach allows me to keep crochet as a peaceful, grounding practice, while also supporting others in meaningful ways. It creates space for giving, learning, and slow growth without rushing or burning out. Most importantly, it protects the part of crochet I love most: the process itself.

Looking Ahead

2026 is all about balance, joy, and mindful making. Blankets, scarves, and hats will be made at a pace that feels right, plushies will keep bringing smiles, and one day I hope to share more tutorials and behind-the-scenes fun.

Thank you for being part of this journey, whether through support, encouragement, or just following along. Here’s to a year full of thoughtful creation, meaningful impact, and joy in every loop.

With gratitude,
Andrea
